Field Surveyor

Essential Job Functions

  • Work primarily in the field on control, boundary, topography, and other tasks on a one or two-person crew.
  • Collect survey data using Trimble GPS systems, robotic total stations, differential leveling, etc.
  • Accurate field location and construction staking of design data.
  • Produce clear and concise field notes and quality field data for office processing.
  • Plan daily activities to meet productivity goals.
  • Communicate with supervisor and office staff about all aspects of the project.
  • Prepare daily time sheets, data logs, expense reports and field change orders.
  • Work outdoors in variable weather conditions and challenging terrain.
  • Perform some office duties, including data download and reduction, field note reduction, calculations, processing, and quality
    control checks.
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team and communicate with clients, subconsultants, site supervisors, and contractors.
  • Adheres to company policies and service line procedures.
  • Follow safety protocols.
  • Perform equipment inventory and adjustments and keep current with vehicle maintenance.
  • Participate in department and field crew training.
  • Represent RCC in the field and always embody a professional image.
  • Preserve and enhance the RCC brand through job knowledge and strategic field management.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Working from home is not optional for entry-level staff, may be considered for experienced staff.
  • Required to work multiple shifts as necessary.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education, Certification, and Screening Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background screening.
  • LSIT preferred.
  • Associates in Surveying Preferred.

Senior Professional Land Surveyor

Alec plays an integral role in the surveying team at River City Consultants. Alec graduated in 2010 from the Metropolitan State College of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Mapping, as well as a Minor in Mathematics. He is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Colorado. Alec is a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS), which is a designation he earned through a licensing program created by the federal government to assure cadastral boundary surveys are performed in accordance with Bureau of Land Management standards.

Alec has served as project surveyor on many important local projects including work on the Grand Junction Regional Airport, Xcel Energy right-of-way and easement surveys, Xcel Energy/CDOT gas line as-builts, and numerous oil and gas survey operations. Other prior projects Alec has contributed to are the Telluride Airport Runway Reconstruction, federal cadastral projects for the Bureau of Land Management, and project management for a high school football stadium and elementary school.

Alec is a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado, Western Colorado Land Surveyors and the National Society of Professional Surveyors.
